Mac OLED Screen: 2026 Release Date & Rumors

In addition to the M5 Pro & M5 Max models expected soon, Apple is banking on the launch of a brand new MacBook Pro OLED at the end of 2026. The device would benefit in particular from a new chassis and an M6 chip engraved for the first time in 2 nm.

We know that it has been in the pipeline for a long time, we have been talking to you about it regularly for months, but the MacBook Pro OLED is this time approaching its launch for good.

Things have indeed been accelerating for several weeks, with the publication, by different sources, of consistent information pointing towards the marketing of this brand new model by the end of 2026. After Bloomberg, and the Korean blogger Yeux1122, it is therefore the turn of the specialized media The Elec (via WCCFTech) to support this thesis.

Things are becoming clearer, but Samsung is delaying delivering its OLED panels

This MacBook Pro would indeed have, in this case, a new Tandem OLED screen (a technology already seen at Dell, or even at ASUS) intended to replace the current mini-LED panel of the MacBook Pros marketed since 2021. This change in display technology would give Apple the opportunity to evolve the chassis of its MacBook Pro, which would also benefit from an Apple Silicon M6 chip, engraved for the first time using the 2 nm process of TSMC.

Other rumors suggest that the device would also abandon the notch installed at the top of the screen of current models, replacing it with a Dynamic Island similar to that of the last generations of iPhone.

Two obstacles would nevertheless stand before Apple at this stage.

First, the surge in RAM prices, which would force the company to drive down the production costs of all other components of the device as much as possible. A crucial point which would not prevent this new MacBook Pro OLED M6 from arriving on the market at a higher price than that of its direct predecessor, the M5 model launched last October.

Then, the slowness of Samsung Display. We learn that the Samsung Electronics division responsible for producing these Tandem OLED panels has not yet started producing said screens.

The firm has in fact postponed this start of production until later, while waiting to lower the manufacturing cost of some of the components which will be used for the screens of the new MacBook Pro M6… and which are for some still in the development phase. In turn, the first of the two obstacles would therefore generate the second.

That said, The Elec estimates that Samsung Display will be able to launch large-scale production of Tandem OLED screens for the MacBook Pro M6 as early as May, to begin delivering Foxconn (responsible for assembling these same MacBooks) in the third quarter.

A launch of the device during the fourth quarter of 2026 would therefore remain very relevant, with an ambiguity at stake: the M5 Pro / M5 Max models (still expected in the first half of 2026) would have more power, but would remain confined to an aging chassis and an older generation mini-LED screen. A funny situation which could impact the sales of these models.
