NEW YORK – Mac DeMarco recently concluded a two-night stint at Radio City music Hall, leaving audiences charmed by his laid-back demeanor and engaging performance. Throughout the show, shouts of “I love you Mac!” echoed through the venue, underscoring the deep connection the Canadian artist has cultivated with his fanbase. DeMarco’s popularity is evident in his sold-out tour dates across North America and Europe, his 20 million monthly Spotify listeners, and a recent profile in The New Yorker titled “Is Mac DeMarco the Last Indie Rock Star?” by Amanda Petrusich.

As his debut with the album 2 in 2012, the 35-year-old DeMarco has become known for his signature “slacker rock” sound, characterized by dreamy vocals, shimmering guitar melodies, and introspective lyrics. His music evokes a relaxed, late-night atmosphere, making it a favorite for solo listening sessions.

DeMarco’s latest album,Guitar,released on his own label,maintains this established vibe. According to press materials, DeMarco wrote, recorded, and produced the album in his Los Angeles home in November of last year, playing all the instruments himself. He also created the album artwork and directed the music videos. in a statement, DeMarco said, “I think Guitar is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper.”

Many tracks from Guitar featured prominently in the setlist, including “Shining,” “Phantom,” “Holy,” and “Home.” These newer, more reflective songs blended seamlessly with older fan favorites such as “For the First time,” “Ode to Viceroy,” “Heart to Heart,” “Freaking Out the Neighborhood,” and “My Kind of Woman.”

On stage, DeMarco’s charisma shone through his simple attire of a baseball cap and T-shirt. He spent much of the performance roaming the stage with a microphone, backed by his touring band, occasionally playing guitar himself. His amusing banter between songs kept the New york audience entertained, as he encouraged them to clap and wave their arms.

The Monday show was the second of two sold-out performances at Radio City, solidifying DeMarco’s strong connection with his fans.

demarco’s U.S. tour continues through Sept. 29, followed by European dates starting Oct. 21.
