A mini island state in Southeast Asia, Singapore is the country of all records: best standard of living, best health system, best education, most cutting-edge technology, longest life expectancy, lowest crime…
In Singapore, science is at the heart of residents’ daily lives: robots serve in restaurants, take care of patients in hospitals or go shopping at the supermarket. Today it is the only one in the world where you can eat artificial meat, made from stem cells in the laboratory.

Singapore also means security taken to the extreme. Everything is under control and the restrictive rules are innumerable: it is forbidden to chew gum, smoke in the street, cross off-road, throw a paper on the ground, talk on the subway or even walk around your home naked.
Censorship is almost generalized there. Political opponents are harassed by the courts. Sexual minorities under surveillance. And using drugs leads straight to prison, or even execution in some cases. Because Singapore applies the death penalty. After a pause during the global lockdown, hangings have resumed.
The Exclusive Investigation team followed the daily lives of Singaporeans, punctuated by ultra-modern technology and prohibitions. In schools, hospitals, markets and streets, there are CCTV cameras everywhere.
We also met those who suffered the extreme severity of the regime: a former prisoner who spent twenty-five years behind bars for simple offenses, then sentenced to corporal punishment. Or even pro-democracy activists who dream of more freedom and who end up incarcerated in their turn.
Finally, we filmed a family whose father is awaiting execution on death row. His crime: having been in possession of thirty-five grams of heroin, where the law automatically sentences anyone possessing more than fifteen grams to the death penalty.
