While the match between Algeria and Nigeria takes place this Saturday, January 10, state services have mobilized a large security force in the Guillotière district of Lyon.

After the excesses observed in the Guillotière district, particularly around Place Gabriel Péri, during the match between Algeria and Congo on Tuesday evening, as part of the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations, the Rhône prefecture is deploying a new reinforced security system this Saturday, January 10, on the sidelines of the Algeria-Nigeria match. The latter will end around 7 p.m.

As our colleagues from Le Progrès indicate, a CRS will be mobilized alongside the CRS83, specialized in the management of high-intensity public order disturbances. A national police crew and water throwers will also be deployed.

Hateful remarks made by an influencer

Already on December 28, several dozen supporters also gathered to celebrate Algeria’s victory, before individuals attacked the police.

Hateful remarks had also been made by the Franco-Algerian influencer Sofia Benlemmane. In a video published on social networks, the latter chanted: “You colonized us, now you are in trouble. This country is ours, we do what we want”. The prefect of Rhône, Fabienne Buccio, then alerted the public prosecutor of these facts by referring to article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
