McLaren instead of Ferrari: Luca di Montezemolo grabs a new job

However, not directly in the team’s Formula 1 area, but in the company’s car division from Woking: The Italian has been appointed director of McLaren Group Holdings Limited-the company that controls McLaren Automotive and holds a minority stake in the Formula 1 team.
On Friday, McLaren Group Holdings ltd submitted a corresponding entry to the British company authority Companies House. This makes Montezemolo the ninth board member of the company.

The dazzling Italian played a central role in Ferrari’s return in Formula 1 in the late 1990s and was CEO of the traditional racing team from Maranello until 2014. Now he joins the holding company, which is mainly responsible for McLaren’s automotive business – and also holds minority stake in the McLaren Group, under which the racing teams are organized.

Montezemolos’ appeal follows the takeover of McLaren Automotive by the investment company Cyvn Holdings based in Abu Dhabi. This had announced that it would reorganize McLaren in the segments of high -performance vehicles and luxury automobiles, set international standards and to establish the brand as a powerful British automotive company on the world stage.
In May, Nick Collins was used as the new CEO of McLaren Automotive, who is now sitting on the board together with Montezemolo. Paul Walsh, chairman of the McLaren Group, was also added to this at the beginning of the week. The motorsport department – McLaren Racing and the overarching McLaren Group – is still majority in the possession of the Bahrainische Stundefonds MUMTALAKAT.
