In a touching demonstration of familial legacy and military service, Lt Cdr Saahil Ahluwalia will lead the Navy contingent at the Republic Day 2025 parade. This monumental task comes with special significance, as 34 years ago, his father, Retired Cmde Ravi Ahluwalia, held the same honor. For the Ahluwalia family, this will be a moment of immense pride and joy.

A Second-Generation Naval Hero

Saahil Ahluwalia joined the Indian Navy in December 2012 and was quickly recognized for his exceptional skills. He was adjudged the best sportsperson at the academy, a testament to his talent and hard work. Commissioned in November 2016, he has since served on frontline warships, including Teg, Kolkata, Tabar, and Kirch, where he participated in anti-piracy patrols, operations deployments, and the Samudra Setu mission during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his service on these vessels, Ahluwalia visited 27 countries and exercised with various foreign navies. His extensive experience and dedication have led to his current role as a gunnery and missile warfare specialist, where he serves as the Gunnery Officer on INS Mysore.

Milestone Selection for Republic Day Parade

Ahluwalia has been selected twice as the Guard Officer to the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, The President of India. His journey to becoming the Navy contingent commander for the Republic Day parade is a culmination of his relentless hard work and commitment. He shares, “It would be a moment of immense pride and honor for me as a second-generation naval officer to follow in my father’s footsteps. It is the culmination of months of relentless hard work, discipline, and teamwork, with every member of the contingent striving for perfection both on the parade ground and behind the scenes. We are very confident that we will win the best marching contingent trophy this year.”

Retired Cmde Ravi Ahluwalia’s Reflections

Reflecting on his son’s achievement, Retired Cmde Ravi Ahluwalia expressed his happiness, stating, “I am very happy to see that my son will do the same which I did 34 years ago. The hard work put in by the complete contingent will be visible on the Kartavya Path. My best wishes to all these young boys and girls who have chosen the noble profession of the Navy to serve the country.”

The Ahluwalia Legacy

The story of the Ahluwalia family is a testament to generations of dedication and sacrifice in the Indian Navy. It not only highlights the importance of family in the military but also underscores the commitment of each individual to serve the nation with excellence. As the Republic Day parade approaches, the Ahluwalas will stand as a symbol of continued maritime leadership and service.
