Wet time is a prerequisite for fungal diseases

Weekly Agrometeorological Prognosis

Dukena Joleva,

Agrometeorologist at NIMH

At the beginning of the next seven -day period, a significant decrease in temperatures and a change in agrometeorological conditions are predicted. The development of crops by the end of the first ten days of April will be carried out at slow pace, at average temperatures below climatic norms. At the end of the ten days, negative minimum temperatures are forecast and an increased risk of damage to the colors and young fertilizers.

A gradual increase in temperatures and improvement in the growing season of crops is expected at the beginning of the second ten days of the month.

During the wheat period, the phases of brothering and splashing will be observed in the crops of places in the Danube Plain and in the eastern regions of the country (Nikolaevo, Targovishte, Dolni Chiflik).

The fallen rainfall in late March and in the first week of April exceeded in many places in the country 30 l/sq. m, which has led to an increase in soil moisturestyles in the 50cm layer and overcoming moisture deficiency in winter cereals at the beginning of their spring vegetation. The expected rainfall in the next period will increase the level of moisture and in the deeper soil layers.

The cool and wet weather will be a prerequisite for the spread and development of fungal diseases – powdery mildew and septorosis in wheat, early brown rot, scabbard and fruits on most days of the period. Improving the conditions for plant protection sprays, premium areas and sowing of medium -sized spring crops are expected at the end of the period.
