ST. LOUIS —
The Louisiana Tech bowling team emerged victorious on the lanes at the Columbia 300 Saints Invite, concluding the weekend with a notable 9-3 record and securing the third position at Bowlero Lakeside on Sunday.
Standing Tall Against Stiff Competition
Heading into the final day of competition as the 12th-ranked Bulldogs (56-33), Tech played all seven games in each match, posted a record of 2-1, and competed against formidable opponents.
Reverse of Fortunes Against Maryville
The Bulldogs started the day facing the host, No. 11 Maryville. Despite winning the first game with a close score of 181-137, Tech encountered tough competition in the subsequent games. Maryville won games two to four with scores of 235-205, 246-228, and 236-224, respectively, leaving Tech trailing in the series.
However, LA Tech didn’t back down. Their resolve and determination shone through as they won games five and six, forcing a decisive seventh game. Despite challenges at the start, the Bulldogs stringed together a high-scoring run and secured victory with a tight 209-205 game, clinching a hard-fought win.
Saddleback Fighting With Wichita State
In what could be considered an even more pivotal match, the Bulldogs faced No. 7 Wichita State, the defending USBC Intercollegiate Team champions. LA Tech took the initial lead by winning game one 233-183, but Wichita State retaliated by winning games two and three with nearly perfect scores of 225-210 and 217-205, respectively.
Undeterred, Tech fought back and stood firmly on their feet, winning games four and five 191-169 and 233-215. The final two games were intense with Wichita State prevailing 269-256 in game six, and securing victory with a near-perfect game seven score of 279-196.
Third in the Works Against Sacred Heart
Louisiana Tech made a valiant effort in the third-fourth-place game against No. 11 Sacred Heart. The Pioneers took game one 256-234, but LA Tech bounced back in game two with a tie after an emphatic 10th frame. LA Tech seized momentum winning games three and four, leaving the series in a tie 2.5-1.5.
Although Sacred Heart won a crucial game five with a 225-204 score, LA Tech maintained resilience and held their strong form, taking game six with a 211 score. The Bulldogs left the match with a one-game edge and pushed forth for a final showdown.
Match Point Triumph
Tech’s victory came full circle as they closed out the final set of the tournament. After two challenging eight-counts, LA Tech rolled a perfect 278 by bowling 10 consecutive strikes, sealing a second-place standing and claiming third place overall in the tournament.
Looking Ahead
Following a well-deserved break, Louisiana Tech will return to competitive lanes for the Mid-Winter Invitational at Arkansas State’s Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas, starting on February 14.
