A “Festival of Technical Disciplines” unfolded at Sechseläutenplatz on Wednesday evening, marking the return of top-tier athletics to ZURICH. The excited crowd of 7,000 celebrated standout performances, including Simon Ehammer’s long jump victory and Nicola Olyslagers’ record-setting high jump.
At 6:52 p.m., Simon Ehammer soared to a distance of 8.32 m in the long jump, marking his first-ever 8-meter jump in ZURICH. This leap secured his second overall victory in the Wanda Diamond League, a feat he also accomplished in 2023. It was also the first time a Swiss athlete has won a Diamond League day victory in the city since the league’s inception in 2010.

This time, his 22.46 m throw earned him his fourth diamond. Despite finishing fourth at the US trials and missing the World Cup in Tokyo, he currently leads the world’s best competition series.
Olyslagers triumphs in High Jump
The high jump event featured a highly anticipated showdown between yaroslava Mahuchikh and nicola Olyslagers, with Olyslagers emerging as the victor. Unlike the Olympics in 2021 and 2024, Mahuchikh did not secure the top spot. Both athletes cleared all heights up to 2.02 m on their first attempts, but Mahuchikh faltered at 2.06 m, marking the end of her competition despite achieving a season’s best of 2.02 m.
Olyslagers cleared 2.04 m, setting a new Oceania record. Morgan Lake (GbR) also delivered an inspired performance, becoming the first British woman to exceed 2 m.
Moon Leads US Sweep in Pole Vault
The women’s pole vault final saw Katie Moon, the Olympic champion of 2021 and World Cup titleholder, secure victory by clearing 4.82 m. She expressed gratitude to the audience, stating, “The audience gave me the extra energy that I needed.”
Fellow Americans Sandi Morris and Emily grove (both 4.75 m) completed the US sweep. Angelica Moser,competing on her home turf,finished fourth with a height of 4.65 m.
