French astronaut Sophie Adenot is set to experiance a taste of home during her upcoming mission to the International Space Station (ISS).The European Space Agency (ESA) has revealed that Adenot will enjoy a menu crafted by chef anne-Sophie Pic, holder of 10 Michelin stars, featuring classic French dishes adapted for space travel.
The culinary journey includes lobster bisque, foie gras, and onion soup, alongside parsnip and haddock velouté, chicken with tonka beans and creamy polenta, and a chocolate cream with hazelnut cazette flower. The ESA emphasized the stringent requirements for space-bound food, including a two-year shelf life and specific texture and weight considerations.
While fresh fruits and vegetables are infrequent luxuries, arriving only with resupply missions, astronauts typically consume canned, vacuum-packed, or freeze-dried meals. To personalize the experience, one in ten meals is tailored to individual crew members’ preferences.
“During a mission, sharing our respective dishes is a way of inviting crewmates to learn more about our culture. It’s a very powerful bonding experience,” said Adenot, highlighting the social aspect of food in space.

A Culinary Challenge
Anne-Sophie Pic, named best female chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2011, described developing the menu as an “exhilarating challenge.” The menu comprises four starters, two main courses, and two desserts.
Adenot, 42, a former helicopter test pilot, is scheduled for her first ISS tour in 2026. This mission follows the return of two NASA astronauts in March, who faced an extended stay on the ISS due to issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.
