Car Collision Injures Dozens at Liverpool Victory Parade

A 53-year-old man has been taken into custody after a vehicle struck a crowd during Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade, according to Merseyside Police. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as an act of terrorism.

Emergency services responded to reports of a car hitting pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool city center at approximately 6pm on Monday, creating a scene described as chaotic.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the vehicle was stopped at the location, and the individual believed to be the driver, identified as a white British man from the Liverpool area, was apprehended.

The North West Ambulance Service reported that at least 47 individuals sustained injuries in the incident, with 27 requiring hospital care. Among the injured,two suffered serious wounds,including one child.

Police Investigation and Response

Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jenny Sims addressed the press, stating: “We believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism.”

She added that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision and urged the public to refrain from speculation or spreading inaccurate details on social media platforms.

Celebration Turns to Chaos

On Monday, hundreds of thousands of Liverpool FC supporters had congregated in Liverpool to celebrate their team’s Premier League title. The players were transported through the city on an open-top bus along a 10-mile route for several hours.

As the event was concluding, the car collided with pedestrians. Merseyside Fire and rescue service reported that thay found four people trapped underneath the vehicle, including a child.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the scenes as “appalling” and conveyed his concern for “all those injured or affected”. He also expressed his gratitude to the police and emergency services for their prompt response to the incident.

Liverpool FC released a statement saying the club’s “thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident”.
