Liv Morgan’s Original WWE Name Revealed

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Liv Morgan has been well established in her WWE career using that name since 2014, but she recently revealed that her path to picking a moniker was far from simple. Most talent signed by the company is given the opportunity to pitch their own ring names, though the final decision ultimately rests with WWE officials. According to Morgan, she submitted multiple lists of names that were all rejected before a “cheeky” suggestion created lasting lore at the Performance Center.

Speaking to Stephanie McMahon on What’s Your Story?Liv was asked about the rumor that she once pitched the name “Oprah.”

“There is a little bit of lore behind it. I didn’t just go full on Oprah,” Liv clarified. “There is a little misconception here. What happened was, you get to the PC and they’re like, ‘What do you want to be called?’ You get to write a list of names. I had a list of names, and they were like, ‘None of these.’ I really wanted to not have a proper name. I didn’t want it to sound like a government name. I wanted it to sound like a character. I wanted like Illy Milly, which I still stand by that. They asked for a second list. I give a second list and they’re like, ‘No.’ I give a third list. At the bottom, I’m being a little cheeky, ‘these will do, or I’ll settle for Oprah.’ For some reason, Oprah stuck, and no one ever let me live it down. Sometimes, I’ll still see Hunter [Triple H] and he’ll be like, ‘Oprah!’ When I was at the Performance Center rehabbing they’re like ‘Oprah!’ I was just trying to be cheeky, but it was the one thing everyone remembered. All that, to still not ever pick my name.”

Morgan recently spent significant time back at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, following a serious shoulder injury. The injury occurred during the June 16, 2025, episode of Monday Night Raw in Green Bay, Wisconsin, when she landed awkwardly during a single-leg takedown by Kairi Sane. The resulting dislocated shoulder required surgery, which was performed in Birmingham, Alabama, by Dr. Jeff Dugas.

Initial reports suggested that Morgan would be sidelined until early 2026, but she beat those expectations by returning months ahead of schedule. She made her surprise return to action at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29, 2025. Most recently, Morgan competed in her first singles match since the injury on the January 5, 2026, episode of Monday Night Raw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. During the themed “RAW is Stranger Things” anniversary special, she defeated Lyra Valkyria using her Oblivion finisher.
