Liquid Glass & Apple Intelligence: A Deep Dive

by drbyos

After a short beta period, OmniOutliner 6 was officially launched by Omni Group. This new version brings many improvements and features that will make your structuring tasks even more efficient, even for those who are not big fans of sketch development.

OmniOutliner 6 introduces Omni Links

As promised last November, OmniOutliner 6 benefits from a Liquid Glass visual overhaul, while becoming a universal application.

According to Omni Group :

OmniOutliner has been visually modernized, adopting beautiful Liquid Glass design elements, for a modern appearance on macOS Tahoe 26, iOS 26, and iPadOS 26. With a new app icon that adapts to supported devices, OmniOutliner 6 fits seamlessly on Apple’s latest operating systems.

As a universal app, OmniOutliner 6 makes all of its new features accessible from Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple Vision Pro, with a consistent user interface and universal feature set, including a versatile new feature called Omni Links.

Omni Links allow documents to be linked via user-defined connected folders, whether local or remote via Dropbox, iCloud Drive, Google Drive and Google Docs. This feature also works with files and folders located on a local server.

In addition to files and folders, Omni Links are compatible with web links, making them even more powerful, especially when using multiple devices. They are also shareable, as long as the other user also has OmniOutliner 6.

Refined interface, themes and templates

OmniOutliner 6 fixes some dark mode issues that users of previous versions had noticed, proving that every detail was carefully considered during the development of this new version.

Users can now make the app reflect the system setting for light or dark mode, and even create their own custom skins, a nice addition.

Dynamic Themes allows color schemes of the app and even templates to be adapted to light or dark mode, improving visibility in each setting, especially for those who use automatic switching throughout the day.

OmniOutliner 6 also introduces fully customizable templates, compatible across all platforms, reinforcing the application’s universal approach.

Additionally, it ported interface details from specific devices, such as the ability to hide the bottom bar on Mac, an option that was previously reserved for the iPad, as well as advanced document styling on iPad and iPhone.

Finally, OmniOutliner 6 includes significant usability improvements, including multi-column notes, customizable grid lines, indentation levels, and support for multiple windows for the same project.

Omni Automation, Apple Intelligence and AI tools

An exciting new feature: OmniFocus 4.8 introduced support for Apple Intelligence, adding generative text functionality to the app. When Omni Group announced OmniFocus 4.8, Ken Case said:

“Omni Automation introduces support for Apple’s Foundation Model query directly into scripts and plugins. This means you can take advantage of AI without sharing your personal information with third-party services…”

OmniOutliner 6 builds on this advancement by launching AI Toolsa highly customizable feature that uses Omni Automation plugins as well as Apple’s on-device AI model.

In practice, this means that users can extract text from emails, web pages and documents and pass it to Apple’s templates for sketch summaries in response to specific instructions.

Other nice improvements

OmniOutliner 6 also includes:

  • Attachment improvements — Images can now be resized to better fit content.
  • Saved filters — Filters now support nested rules and expanded sets of data-driven options.
  • Collage — New option for collages from other applications.
  • Mode Essentials — Pro users can turn off Pro features to study the Essentials experience.

With this universal release, OmniOutliner 6 can be used on macOS 15 Sequoia and later, iPadOS 26 and 26, as well as visionOS 26 and later.
