Santo Domingo, Dec 13 (EFE).- The Leones del Esgido defeated the Gigantes del Cibao this Saturday, in a game in which Héctor Rodríguez, Junior Lake and Yamaico Navarro each RBI and drove in one run, within the framework of the championship of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom).

Yainer Díaz also scored and drove in a run, while José Marmolejos and Erik González drove in a run each and Sócrates Brito scored on one occasion so that the Scarlets added their third consecutive victory in the game held at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

Wilkin Ramos pitched a scoreless inning to take the win and Stephen Nogosek pitched the ninth without scoring and was credited with the save for the Lions.

Gary Sánchez hit a home run, while Nomar Mazara and Frank Rodríguez each drove a run for the Giants, who suffered their fifth consecutive setback and fell to last place in the Dominican championship standings.

The defeat was for Alberto Pacheco, to whom the reds scored three runs in a third of an inning.

EAGLES 2-3 STARS

Esmil Rogers pitched exceptionally for five innings, in which he allowed one run and struck out five batters to take the victory in the Estrellas Orientales’ victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas on their visit to the Cibao stadium, in Santiago (north).

Rogers, who improved his record to 3-0 so far this season, achieved the 25th victory of his career in the Dominican league, for which he had the support of Raimel Tapia, who scored and drove in a lap, as well as runs produced by Miguel Sanó and Rodolfo Castro.

American Patrick Weigel completed two innings without being stepped on the plate and earned the save for the Stars.

Ezequiel Durán and Aneury Tavárez drove in the two runs for the Águilas in the game.

Drew Parrish was hit with three runs in 3.1 innings, in which he struck out three and lost the game for the Cibaeños.

Suspended match

The match between the Toros del Este and the Tigres del Licey, which was to be played in La Romana (east), was suspended due to the rains that affected the field of the Francisco Micheli stadium.

After this Saturday’s results, Estrellas (18-24) and Leones (18-24) are tied for fourth place in the standings, just half a game ahead of the Gigantes (17-24), while Águilas (28-13), Toros (23-17) and Tigres (19-21) occupy the positions from first to third place.

For this Sunday, the Tigers receive the Bulls in Santo Domingo, the Giants host the Lions in San Francisco de Macorís (northeast) and the Eagles visit the Stars in San Pedro de Macorís (east). EFE
