Linz Music School Choir: Classical Choral Music

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The Linz Music School is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is gifting itself with a new choir. The aim pursued is rather unusual: (almost) exclusively classical choral music is sung. Anyone interested can come to the taster test on November 7th.

“Voices for Classic” is the name of the new choir under the direction of Florian Eschelmüller. The repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the modern era, from Orlando di Lasso to Arvo Pärt, from Johann Sebastian Bach to György Ligeti.

The rehearsals usually take place on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Prunerstift Linz (Fabrikstraße 10). Friends of classical choral music aged around 16 and over are invited. Knowledge of music is desired.

Registration: Music School of the City of Linz, musikschule@mag.linz.at

Non-binding taster trial

If you still have doubts about whether “Voices for Classic” is the right thing, you can come to the Prunerstift on Friday, November 7th at 6 p.m. for a non-binding trial rehearsal or contact choir director Florian Eschelmüller in advance (florian.eschelmueller@gmail.com).

“While the Linz music school choir United Voices, under the direction of Birgit Kubica, has been generating enthusiasm in the areas of rock and pop for years, classical choral music has always played a rather subordinate role at the Linz music school and in the entire music school system. And we want to change that!”, says music school director Christian Denkmaier, confident that the music school is also a highly interesting place for classical choral music terrain is. Many registrations – especially from young adults – for the subject of classical solo singing would show that there is an unbroken longing to give one’s voice to the works of the past and present.
