The segment showcased a young monk, a fourth-year student at Dongguk University and in his fifth year as a monk, who shared a deeply personal story about his father’s unwavering support.
The monk recounted how his father initially suggested he consider the monastic life. He also addressed common misconceptions about monks,stating,Why are many people who are monks,and they’re married and have a child.
Shipyard Days and a Burning Regret
Before entering the monastery, the young man worked at a shipyard. He recalled telling his father, I can’t burn it when my dad enters the temple.
His father’s response revealed a profound sacrifice: When I went to work as a Geoje, I burned it and couldn’t leave in front of your hostel for a while.
This confession brought tears to the monk’s eyes, and he paused, overcome with emotion.
