(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kyung-yoon Kim = Figure skating ice dance team Lim Hae-na and Kwon Ye (general competition) have virtually confirmed their participation in the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.
Lim Hae-na and Kwon Ye-jo received 62.62 technical points (TES), 49.56 artistic points (PCS), 1 deduction point, and a total score of 111.18 points in the ice dance free dance at the 2025 National Men’s and Women’s Figure Skating President’s Cup Ranking Competition held at the Mokdong Ice Rink in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul on the 30th.
The two combined the short dance score of 75.82 points, recording a final total score of 187.00 points.
Lim Hae-na and Kwon Ye-jo are Korea’s only senior ice dance team that participated alone in this competition and virtually secured a spot in the Olympics.
In addition, he won the right to participate in the 2026 ISU Figure Skating Four Continents Championships to be held in January next year.
This competition is the first round of selection to select the national team for the Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics, and the scores from the second round of selection to be held in January next year are added to select athletes for the Olympics.
In Korea, Lim Hae-na and Kwon Ye-jo placed 18th at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships held in March this year, earning one spot in the Olympic figure ice dance category according to the distribution by country.
This is the third time that Korean figure skaters are participating in the Olympic ice dance event, following the 2002 Salt Lake City Games (Tae-Hwa Yang and Icheon-gun) and the 2018 Pyeongchang Games (Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin).
Kwon Ye, who has Chinese Canadian nationality, acquired Korean nationality through special naturalization by the Ministry of Justice in December last year.
Instead of his real name ‘Kwan Ye’, he took the Korean name ‘Kwon Ye’ and registered it with the Korea Skating Federation as Kwan Ye. Lim Hae-na is a Korean-Canadian dual citizen.
Korea also secured two spots each in the men’s and women’s figure skating events at the Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.
