Lifx, one of the first smart lighting brands, is releasing a Matter-enabled smart mirror, its first U.S. in-wall dimmer, and cheaper bulbs and strips starting at around $12. The company announced new products at CES this week and plans to upgrade its new generation of devices later this year to support Matter-over-Thread in addition to Wi-Fi.
The new Lifx SuperColor mirror features front and backlighting, makeup checking and anti-fog modes. It comes with three configurable buttons that let you control other smart home devices directly from the mirror. It supports Mater, so you can connect it to Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and more.
The 36 x 22-inch mirror can be mounted horizontally or vertically, supports hardwired or plug-in mounting, and offers individually controllable front and backlighting with full-color effects like Lifx’s moonlights and ceiling lights. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but Lifx says it will launch in the second quarter of 2026.
The $30 Lifx Smart Dimmer, which will also be available in the second quarter, is an in-wall paddle switch with four customizable buttons, a gradient light strip, and a matte stand. Each button can be configured with single-press, double-press or long-press gestures to trigger other Lifx lights or smart home scenes via a compatible Mater platform.
In addition to standard LED, incandescent and halogen bulbs, the switch can also control substance-adaptive dimmable smart bulbs, meaning you don’t have to choose between smart switches and smart dimmable colored lighting. It requires a neutral wire and is compatible with three-way setups.
Like its main rival Philips Hue, Lifx is launching a line of low-cost smart lights.
Lifx chief technology officer Mark Hollands said the Everyday range joins its premium SuperColor range, which features the brand’s 90 CRI color accuracy but lower RGB output than high-end products.
The first product in the series is the Everyday Bulb (A19), an 800-lumen, full-color, tunable white bulb available in a 2,700 to 6,500 Kelvin range. The bulbs are available now on Amazon Lifx.com for $24 in a two-pack.
The 20-foot Everyday LightStrip with 24 addressable zones is available this month for $39.99. The strip’s controllers also include a configurable four-button controller that can trigger scenes on any Matter-compatible platform.
All new products and Lifx’s current product line support Matter-over-Wi-Fi, but later this year, an OTA update will support switching to Threaded thanks to the dual-protocol chip. Threads are one of the network protocols used by Matter.
“Wi-Fi is the lowest common denominator of connectivity…(The thread) is still evolving.”
Lifx says it hopes this will make it easier for customers to buy and set up the device, while also giving them the option to switch to Thread if they decide they need the protocol’s wider mesh coverage or want to reduce congestion on their Wi-Fi network.
“Wi-Fi is the lowest common denominator of connectivity, and while the thread has made great strides in standardization and reliability, it’s still evolving,” Hollands said. Offering both services means customers can buy and set up a product without Threaded networking and then switch to Threaded later if they need its benefits.
