Lewis Hamilton Takes the Helm: First Laps in Ferrari’s 2025 SF-25
Lewis Hamilton marked the beginning of a new era as he completed his first laps in Ferrari’s new 2025 SF-25. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s transition to red is an eagerly awaited move in motorsport.
Hamilton’s Preparation for the SF-25
Hamilton, who made a high-profile move from rival Mercedes, had previously tested some of Ferrari’s older cars. Wednesday’s session was crucial as it provided him with his first substantial track time in the car he hopes will win him an historic eighth world title.
His teammate, Charles Leclerc, also took to the wheel at Fiorano, Ferrari’s test circuit located near the iconic Maranello factory. This came a day after the SF-25 was officially unveiled in London, drawing significant attention.
Fan Reception and Media Buzz
Hamilton expressed his excitement during a public appearance at the O2 Arena before heading to Italy. At Fiorano, Ferrari packed the track with fans, providing a fitting backdrop for the British driver’s first laps in the SF-25. Given Ferrari’s historical significance in Formula 1, such enthusiasm is understandable.
However, significant preparations still lie ahead. Hamilton had initially driven a 2022 Ferrari at Fiorano in January before a brief session with a 2023 car in Barcelona. During the latter test, he encountered a minor crash, highlighting the early challenges of adapting to new machinery.
The Path Forward
The upcoming preseason testing period, scheduled from February 26 to 28, will be critical for Hamilton and his new team. This phase will involve extensive track time as both drivers acclimate to the SF-25 and begin fine-tuning its performance.
The season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16-18, marking the true test of Hamilton’s readiness. Ferrari, with its rich history and talented drivers, will be keen to end its decade-long trophy drought, adding urgency to this transition.
