The Sarajevo Canton is grappling with an outbreak of leptospirosis, with the total number of reported cases reaching 71 since the epidemic began, according to the Sarajevo Canton Public Health Institute.
In their latest daily report, the institute confirmed that two individuals are currently hospitalized at the KCUS. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported to date.
The leptospirosis epidemic in the Canton of Sarajevo was officially declared on May 23 of this year. Of the 71 cases, 30 have been laboratory-confirmed, while 41 are considered probable based on the World Health Organization (WHO) definition.
The Novi grad municipality has recorded the highest number of cases within the Canton, with 53 reported infections. Ilidža follows with eight cases, and the Center municipality has reported seven cases.
