Leprosy in Cluj-Napoca: Tourist Link & Origin of Infection

The investigation continues in Cluj, after the authorities confirmed two cases of leprosy. Two more women, also from Asia, arrived at the Infectious Diseases Hospital on Saturday.

The doctors decided to keep them under observation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health again called for calm and says that the situation is constantly being monitored.

Both female internees are colleagues of the two sisters, and one of them even lived in the same apartment with them. For this reason, the doctors say that, although for now he does not show any injuries or symptoms, he will be kept under surveillance.

Irina Filipescu, spokesperson for the Cluj Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases: „They were consulted so that more thorough investigations can be done on Monday, to see if there is a problem or not. These tests will be done here, for infectious diseases, but they are without symptoms”.

The Minister of Health conveyed that the epidemiological situation is constantly monitored and that there is no danger for the population.

Alexandru Rogobete, Minister of Health: “We are still monitoring the epidemiological situation there, but I will call for calm again and tell people that there is no danger of rapid spread, this bacteria is very difficult to transmit, long-term physical contact is needed.”

We remind you that at least one of the sisters would have brought the disease after being on leave at home. The mother of the two employees was diagnosed with this disease in Bali at the end of October and is also in the hospital.

Corspondent PRO TV: “Meanwhile, the two sisters, aged 21 and 25, confirmed to have leprosy have already been hospitalized and started treatment. They will be monitored so that doctors can see how they will react to the medication, and later they will be able to continue their treatment at home. In addition, after the first 72 hours, the contagiousness decreases significantly.”

On the other hand, the representatives of the massage parlor where the four were employed said that all disinfection measures have been taken, and when they receive permission to open, the team of therapists will be replaced.
