Who will ultimately be chosen to lead sports management in one of the most popular teams in the LVBP? The high command of the Caracas Lions has conducted its search discreetly, until now. While waiting for news, at El Emergente we publish this list with five managers with important careers in Venezuelan professional baseball who do not have a contract in the circuit.
Let’s review their careers, in alphabetical order:
Emilio Carrasquel. He held the sports management of the Lara Cardenales for 17 years, between the 1995-1996 and 2011-2012 seasons. During that period, the Redbirds won three crowns between 1997 and 2001. He was also, before and after that, a scout in several MLB organizations, including Seattle and Pittsburgh, becoming the International Scout Coordinator for several years.
Caesar Collins. He was part of the Águilas and Navigators office for two titles of those currencies (2016-2017, in the case of Zulia, and 2021-2022, in Magallanes). He was named general manager of the Sharks just before the team’s final sale. He immediately led La Guaira to the runners-up position and resigned in the last month of the next qualifying round, leaving a roster that, with some more adjustments, became Caribbean champion months later. For two seasons he has been working with the Cangrejeros de Santurce, current champion of Puerto Rico. He presided over the Major League in its first championships, where he remains the CEO of the Senators.
Richard Gómez. He was the sports manager of the Cardinals between 2012 and 2016, and then was director of Baseball Operations, always with Lara, until 2019. Between the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 games he was the sports manager of the Lions, to close his time in Caracas with one last tournament as an advisor to the presidency. He celebrated the titles of the red birds in 2018-2019 and the long-haired birds in 2022-2023.
Samuel Moscatel. In 2010 he assumed the general management of Caribes, after serving as the director of its Development Program in the parallel league. He held the position for 14 seasons. With him at hand, Anzoátegui achieved his four crowns and a string of consecutive Round Robin qualifications that became the longest in the LVBP. He resigned from his position two years ago and has stayed away from rented baseball ever since.
Manuel Rodriguez. He was assistant to the presidency of the Tigers, in charge of Rafael Rodríguez Rendónin the second part of the Tigrera Dynasty, between the 2007-2008 and 2012-2013 campaigns. In that position, and later as sports manager, he was part of the office in three titles in the LVBP and a Caribbean Series. Upon leaving the Stripes, he held the same position with the Sharks for two championships. In 2015-2016 he was hired as sports manager of the Braves. He stayed there for three games and then worked as director of the Bravos Baseball Academy. He is currently general manager of the Delfines de La Guaira in the Major League.

César Collins already indicated to El Emergente and other media outlets that there was a first contact between him and the Leones del Caracas. However, he made it clear that, for now, he is negotiating with the Cangrejeros de Santurce, after attending the last Caribbean Series with that currency.
