Lenovo is no stranger to out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to creating concept devices, and the Legion Go Fold Concept announced at Mobile World Congress this week is definitely a device that was created by thinking outside the box. It’s also no stranger to handhelds, with its Legion Go and Legion Go 2as well as its Legion Go S Steam OS modelbeing pretty popular. Lenovo is but one company making handhelds, too, though many of them are quite similar, varying by just a few things, such as display size and chipset.
The Legion Go Fold breaks the mold. It’s the Transformer of gaming handhelds, and while it is just a concept, Lenovo has had a tendency to release some of its concepts down the road. This seems like one of those concepts. At least, it should be. What makes it unique is the capability to adapt to the situation.
The foldable display allows for swapping between a smaller 7.7-inch screen and a larger 11.6-inch screen to meet the needs of the user. From handheld gaming to gaming with a mouse and keyboard, or simply using it like a standard laptop for work or school. It’s a hybrid device that no one else has really explored. It even has the same vertical mouse attachment that the Legion Go and Legion Go 2 have. Again, though, this is just a concept, so there’s no guarantee that Lenovo will ever produce and sell it. Here’s hoping, however.
The Legion Go Fold Concept is just one of Lenovo’s new gaming devices
The Legion Go Fold Concept is only one of Lenovo’s new gaming devices being shown off at Mobile World Congress, with the others being the new Legion Tab and the Legion 7a. Additionally, Lenovo is announcing the Yoga 9i 2-In-1 Aura Edition, the Yoga Pro 7a, the Yoga Book Pro 3D Concept, the IdeaPad Pro Gen 2, the IdeaPad Slim 5i Ultra, the Yoga Creative Keyboard AngryMiao Edition, the L16 Mobile Monitor, and the AI Work Companion Concept which is an AI-powered desk clock that envisions a balanced rhythm in the workplace by helping people stay productive and fight burnout.
With the new Legion Tab, Lenovo is using an 8.8-inch 3K display with a 165Hz refresh rate and up to 600 nits typical brightness. That’s far from being the brightest display out there on a mobile device, but it should be plenty for mobile gaming purposes, since you’ll be trying to avoid any sort of glare from bright lights or sunlight when you play.
It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5and it comes with a fairly sizeable 512GB of storage as well as 16GB of RAM. It also features a 9,000mAh battery to keep you gaming for longer sessions. As for the Legion 7a, Lenovo’s new gaming laptop, it’s using AMD’s Ryzen Max+ processorwhich comes with integrated Radeon graphics. It also has a 15.3-inch PireSight OLED display and weighs just 1.65kg in an ultra-slim build, making it very portable.
Pricing and availability
When it comes to pricing and availability, these all basically launch at different times. The Yoga 9i Aura Edition launches in March for $1,949, while the Yoga Pro 7a launches in August for $2,099. The IdeaTab Pro Gen 2 launches a month before for $419. So, as you can see, the dates are all over the place. However, there are a few things launching around the same time.
The new Legion Tab and the Yoga Creative Keyboard launch in May, starting at $849 and $299, respectively. The IdeaPad Slim 5i Ultra and the IdeaPad Slim 3i launch in October for $799 and $599, and then the L16 Mobile Monitor launches sometime in Q3. Lenovo hasn’t announced a price for it yet.
