It concerns Maurice van der Veen, a photo of whom has also been distributed. The police are looking for witnesses and people who know more about the social contacts of the Frisian, born and raised in Leeuwarden, to find out more about his life.

Since the beginning of this week, the TGO has been conducting extensive research into the man’s death at the Wismastate in the Frisian capital. The detective team is investigating the circumstances and wants to know what happened on Monday in particular, and who was in or around the house.

The police especially want to get in touch with people who were on the Wismastate and immediate surroundings on Monday afternoon and evening, and the route between the Wismastate and the Camminghaburen Shopping Center. Perhaps, the police report, there have been notable incidents, people who behaved suspiciously or behaved differently than normal in the area.

Attention is also drawn to any vehicles that did not belong on the street or were parked conspicuously. The police are also looking for camera images, such as doorbells and dashcams, in the area mentioned.

“Every piece of information, no matter how small, can help clarify what happened to the victim and who is responsible,” the police said.

The police previously received a report that the man had not been seen for several days. It was then decided to go to the house. Officers who arrived on the scene found the deceased man in the home.

An investigation was immediately started on site, including by Forensic Investigation. A crime was not ruled out from the start.

De Fries was well-known in his region, especially on social media. For example, he posted a lot in a Facebook group for people who live in or come from Leeuwarden. He mainly posted a lot of photos of nature and streets in the region where he lived. He had not posted or responded on social media for a while, and several people noticed.

Slager no longer saw his regular customer

The Leeuwarder Courant reported a few days ago that Maurice van der Veen’s butcher had not seen him for several days, while his regular customer always faithfully came by twice a day to buy something.

The butcher went to his customer’s home, an apartment on the second floor, but did not find him there. He couldn’t reach him by phone either. The alarm was then raised. Officers gained access to the home by forcing the door and found the man’s lifeless body.
