Lecco Stadium Lighting & Political Debate

by Archynetys News Desk

The behavior of the majority regarding the stadium affair has reached levels that are difficult to justify. For two years the Mayor, Council and majority councilors have expressed a solid no, always throwing the negative answer into the stands, blocking the urgent replacement of the old diesel cabin of the lighting system, after having already blocked the platform for spectators with motor disabilities for years. They have always done it with weak arguments, often contradictory, no technique and always reiterated with pompous arrogance.

In the City Council meeting of 17 November, less than a month ago, the positions expressed in the Chamber spoke clearly and should weigh like rocks on their political credibility:

– Anghileri (La Sinistra Cambia Lecco) defined the stadium as “a prison for the residents” and recalled that today they always play, only once on Sunday, almost hoping for its closure.
– Galli (AmbientalMente) did worse than anyone. He suggested “having the games played in the afternoon and taking down the billboards” as if the technical problem could be solved with a change of time rather than with a safe and functioning system. Then he also declared that for him it is not serious to commit resources “at the end of the mandate” for the new cabin.
– Frigerio (Italia Viva) argued that the agreement still has two years of validity, even inviting “the team that is 20 km from here to play” and allusively underlining “I don’t know if the team that plays in C of a municipality of 4000 inhabitants 20 km from here is helped by its municipality”. Desolate, embarrassing statements, recorded and made in the Chamber, not in conversations at the bar.

– Then hey, “sudden enlightenment” on December 11th, with the elections close and after the strong indignation of fans and citizens, the majority suddenly changed its position: project approved, only the switch to be raised. There were no new technical elements, no regulatory changes, no emergencies that arose. The only real new factor is the electoral calendar. Cost €180,000 (less than the money spent, again at the end of the mandate, for the little flowers on the lakefront which councilor Galli did not however find unbecoming to spend).

– What “couldn’t be done” became possible without hesitation in a clear attempt to clean up the image and limit political damage.
– A change of pace, electoral make believe, for all those who fall for it.
