New collaboration between compatriots: “Tautumeitas” and Petunia join forces in a joint song

As reported by the TV3 channel, the Latvian ethno and pop music group “Tautumeitas” has released a new joint song with the talented Lithuanian singer Petunija. This musical project, which unites the artistic souls of the two Baltic states, is called “Tamsią Naktі”, which means “Dark Night” in Latvian. The song has already experienced its premiere at a grand event in Kaunas “Žalgiris” arena, performing at the annual “Music Award” organized by the M1 radio station. It was a touching moment that confirmed the close bond between the artists.
The group “Tautumeitas” reveals that their meeting with Petunia was really unusual and miraculous. Petunia herself used to say that she was “bewitched”. Already during the selection of Lithuanian “Supernova”, the Latvian group’s performance was often compared to Petunia’s style, and she had long expressed a desire to cooperate. “Life sometimes really gives you the best opportunities,” says Asnate Rancāne, representative of “Tautumeitus”. This summer, they received an invitation from Lithuania’s largest radio station M1 to participate in the annual “Music Award” and to go on stage directly with Petunia. This cooperation not only strengthens the kinship of the two countries, but also shows how similar artistic paths the female artists have followed – coming from the world of folklore, but living in the heart of modern music, constantly looking for new ways to tell ancient songs to modern people.
The message of the song and Baltic unity
The song “Tamsią Naktі” was created as a bridge between Lithuania and Latvia. Its main message is about the topical topic of darkness, how we live with it and what we can see through this darkness. Petunia, while writing this song, really wanted to find what truly unites Latvians and Lithuanians. One of those commonalities, she points out, is the experience of the dark, uncertain winter weather, and the ability to find joy and do something exciting in spite of it. “Cooperation with “Tautumeitas” was a dream for me since the first time I heard about this group,” admits Petunia. Their joint performance in Lithuania and the time they spent together proved that “Tautumeitas” are not only excellent musicians and authors, but also very sincere people. The song combines the unique sound of both artists, which intertwines ethnic motifs with modern elements of pop music and even electronic music.
The common experience and future plans of female artists
An alternative pop singer and songwriter, Petunia blends various genres of music into her sound, including rock, ethnic and electronic music. She emphasizes that the song “Tamsią Naktі” was created thinking about the uncertain winter time typical of the Baltic States, when the days become short and the nights become long. This experience affects lifestyle and relationships, and it is these reflections that have become the first lines of the song, enriching it with mystified folk elements, creating the feeling of a “super Baltic” duet. The representatives of “Tautumeitus” and Petunija have already met on stage at various festivals, such as “Sostinės dinės” and “Riga Music Week”, which have further strengthened their artistic and human connection. The group “Tautumeitas” is recognized not only in Latvia, but also internationally, receiving awards for its albums and performing in various countries around the world. They are also planning their annual “Dawn Concert Ritual”, which will take place in June 2026 on the side of Tukum, on Sveikuļi hill, creating a magical adventure on the longest night of the year.
