Álvarez’s journey to the presidency is marked by a diverse background. born in Texas and raised in Mexico,he returned to the united States in 2021. He worked in various roles before securing a scholarship that enabled him to attend UNC Chapel Hill. He believes his experiences have provided him with a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by many students.

Álvarez has confirmed with university authorities that he is the first elected Latin as president of the student body of UNC Chapel Hill.
