The Afrodub Experience: A journey through space and time
These “Late Nite Sounds” are about a journey through space, time and musical genres such as Afrobeat, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and Ambient.
On his new album “The Afrodub Experience”, the Munich multi-instrumentalist and producer Umberto Echo takes us on a journey that lasted 18 years and took him across four continents. With numerous musicians he explored 50 years of Afro-Caribbean music history. Umberto Echo recorded numerous sessions, for example with musicians from Fela Kuti, and mixed Dub tracks from them. You can also hear dancehall hits from Jamaica from 1988, when Hurricane Gilbert devastated the island. With the funny “Wild Gilbert,” DJ Lovindeer brought laughter back to Jamaica. Sister Nancy, the first DJ lady in dancehall history, is back on international tour 43 years after her hit “Bam Bam”, which was sampled by everyone from Lauryn Hill to Bejonce and James Bond. Her re-released album “One Two” is also included. And Boozoo Bajoo, the Nuremberg producer duo concludes this “night mix” on Bayern 2 in the “Late Nite Sounds” with Cinematic Downbeat Ambient.
