LAS VEGAS, NV – This Tuesday, January 27, the emblematic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign lit up yellow in an emotional commemoration of the Holocaust. This symbolic act aims to honor the memory of all the people who were persecuted and murdered during this tragic historical period, marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.
Since 2025, this date has been officially recognized in the state of Nevada through the law SB 96. At the event that took place next to the sign, Councilman Michael Naft highlighted that the goal of this commemoration is to keep the lessons of history alive to combat hate and anti-Semitism within the community.
Closing of the exhibition
In parallel with this commemoration, it was announced that the exhibition titled “Human decisions through the Holocaust” is close to ending. This exhibition, located at the Clark County Government Center, will open its doors to the public for the last time on January 29.
Under the direction of Heidi Straus, president of the Nevada Center for Humanity, the exhibition compiles powerful photographs and testimonies of people from more than 55 countries who risked their lives to save others. The accounts include moving stories of men and women who hid entire families in barns or behind false walls to protect them from capture during the war.
For those interested in attending, the exhibition will be available Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, concluding definitively this Thursday, January 29.
