Laruns Film: Alzheimer’s Debate & Impact

by Archynetys Health Desk

The first part of the evening was devoted to the screening of the short film “Tendre Mémoire”, directed by Yoni Nahum, which offers an immersion into the daily life of Gérard, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, and his wife Marie who assumes the role of caregiver. A film which carries the voice of families affected by the disease and raises public awareness of the realities of support.

A constructive exchange with experts and local actors

The debate that followed with the public, mostly made up of caregivers, health professionals and volunteers, was moderated by Dr.r Patrick Auzon (geriatrician). This moment of discussion highlighted the importance of adapted and coordinated care for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses.

The director of CIAS Vallée d’Ossau, Laure Carrère, then took the floor to present the local actions carried out by the structure which actively works to support families in the valley. His intervention highlighted the importance of the involvement of local actors in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, many partners of which were present: Lydie Baylocq (president of the ADMR de l’Ayguette), Isabelle Colin (nurse IDE Azalée), Dr.r Anne Blanchet as well as a representative of the ESA of Oloron.

This evening was a great success thanks to the involvement of all social actors in the region and their involvement who work tirelessly to improve the quality of life of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and their loved ones. Thanks to initiatives like this, the Ossau Valley shows an example of local solidarity capable of responding to the challenges linked to this disease.

The project of a traveling minibus

Jean-Claude Lapabe, president of France Alzheimer 64, presented the traveling minibus project, an innovative initiative aimed at meeting people affected by the disease and in a situation of isolation. This project aims to provide valuable information on Alzheimer’s disease and to raise awareness among professionals working at home of the first signs of the disease. The support will continue with home visits during which a professional and a volunteer will present the workshops organized by the association as well as the traveling Relay Stop, planned between Laruns and Arudy.
