In a little less than two weeks, the members of FC Barcelona will elect their new president, who will take control of the club at the end of the season, for the next five years. The electoral campaign is particularly followed in Barcelona, with candidates increasing their media interventions to convince supporters to give them their vote.
If the name of Lionel Messi comes up very often in debates concerning a possible return, against his will moreover, we also talk about electoral promises leading to Julian Alvarez or Harry Kane. What is certain is that at the time of writing these lines, there is a big favorite: Joan Laporta. The sulphurous Catalan lawyer is indeed the favorite for his own succession, with polls which sometimes give him up to 58% of the favor of Barcelona sociologists.
A significant danger for Laporta
However, in recent hours, a great danger has begun to arise in front of him. An alliance could thus be formed between his main rival, Victor Font, and two other candidates, Xavier Vilajoana and Marc Ciria, although the latter has publicly ruled out this option for the moment. A common front with three candidates who could be a real threat to Joan Laporta, and Victor Font, who counts in particular on the public support of Xavi Hernandez, has clearly opened the door to this alliance.
A united candidacy which, in addition to being certain to collect all the votes necessary to pass the final level of support required to be in the ballots on March 15, would concentrate enormous resources and bring together different currents of thought that exist in the barcelonismo. It is also clearly an anti-Laporta candidacy, with a desire to put an end to the rather presidentialist model of the current leader and give a little more power to the socios. To be continued…
