It was not so much the final score of 2:3 in the away match with Birmingham, but rather the work of the referee that unbalanced Coventry coach Frank Lampard at the end of the next round of the English Championship.
As soon as a Sky Sports reporter tried to ask whether the penalty kick should have been awarded to the division leaders, Lampard immediately made it clear that he considered the episode with Efron to be an obvious foul in the opponent’s penalty area.
In a conversation with the same journalist, the former Chelsea midfielder recalled that similar situations had already happened before: according to him, penalties were not awarded in the matches against Southampton and Cheltenham, which, as the coach noted, is turning into a persistent trend.
Lampard emphasized that his team received only one penalty throughout the entire season, although statistically they enter the opponent’s penalty area more often than others and carry out positional attacks.
The defeat from Birmingham did not move Coventry from the first line of the table – the club still has fifty-two points after twenty-six games, but the winless streak has already increased to three meetings.
