Anti-Corruption agency Expands Examination
The Indonesian anti-corruption commission, known as the KPK, is broadening its investigation into alleged corruption related to the management of community grant funds (Pokmas) allocated from the East Java provincial Budget (APBD) for the fiscal years 2021-2022. This expansion includes a recent search of the Surabaya residence of La Nyalla Mattalitti, former Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).
La Nyalla Expresses Confusion, Denies Involvement
Following the search of his property in the Mulyorejo area of Surabaya, La Nyalla Mattalitti issued a statement expressing his bewilderment.He asserted that he has no connection to Kusnadi, a former member of the East Java Province DPRD who has been named a suspect by the KPK in the same case.
I also do not know, I also have never been in contact with Kusnadi’s brother. Moreover, I also do not know the names of grant recipients from Kusnadi.

Mattalitti further stated that he is not a recipient of any grant funds or Pokmas, emphasizing that the search yielded no incriminating evidence.
Therefore, in the end the Minutes of the search results were clearly written, if no goods or money or documents were found related to the investigation.

He awaits clarification from the KPK regarding the rationale behind the search, hoping they will publicly acknowledge the absence of any seized evidence.

Travel Bans Imposed on Multiple Individuals
As part of the ongoing investigation,the KPK has imposed travel bans on 21 individuals. These individuals include state officials and private citizens,suggesting a wide net being cast in the pursuit of uncovering the full extent of the alleged corruption. The individuals facing travel restrictions are:
- KUS (State Organizer/Member of the East Java Provincial Parliament)
- AI (State Organizer/Member of the Jawatimur Province DPRD)
- US (State Organizer/Member of East Java Province DPRD)
- BW, JPP, HAS, and Suk (Private)
- AR, WK, AJ, Mas, AA, AH (Private)
- FA (State organizers/Members of the Sampang Regency DPRD)
- MAH (State Organizer/Member of the East Java Provincial DPRD)
- JJ (State Organizer/Member of the Probolinggo Regency DPRD)
- AYM, RWS, MF, AM, and MM (Private)
KPK’s Investigative Actions in Surabaya
Between July 15th and 18th, 2024, the KPK investigation team conducted a series of activities in Surabaya, including questioning witnesses and seizing relevant documents. These actions underscore the seriousness of the investigation and the KPK’s commitment to uncovering any wrongdoing.
According to Transparency International,Indonesia consistently faces challenges with corruption. In 2023, Indonesia scored 34 out of 100 on the Corruption perception Index, indicating a serious corruption problem. Cases like this one involving grant funds highlight the ongoing need for vigilance and strong anti-corruption measures.
