By Zahraa Al-Kazemi Kuwait – 12-28 (KUNA) – The Environment Public Authority announced the adoption of the Supreme Committee for Climate Change’s recommendations contained in the report of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), which confirms the importance of having a pavilion for the State of Kuwait and an office for the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the upcoming 31st conference, which will be held in the city of Antalya in the Republic of Turkey in November 2026.
Director of the Air Quality Monitoring Department at the Environment Public Authority, Sharif Al-Khayyat, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Sunday, that the third meeting of the Supreme Committee for Climate Change was headed by the Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment, Tariq Al-Roumi, and came to discuss the outcomes of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Al-Sharif explained that the committee was briefed during the meeting on Minister Al-Roumi’s participation in the opening ceremony of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) held in the city of Belem in the Brazilian Republic in the first week of last November, indicating that the committee also reviewed the most prominent events and final outcomes of the 30th Conference of the Parties and the impact of these decisions on the State of Kuwait.
He stated that the meeting also aims to prepare for the negotiating position of the State of Kuwait in the next conference, indicating that the committee discussed the latest developments regarding the Authority’s efforts to implement Kuwait’s obligations towards the Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is the third national communication document and the annual transparency report document.
He stated that the committee also discussed the Authority’s efforts to implement Kuwait’s obligations in the third nationally updated contributions document for the State of Kuwait, the rates of completion of each of these documents, and the expected date for its completion and delivery to the United Nations.
He pointed out that at the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed that the next committee meeting would be devoted to discussing the issue of carbon taxes from the civil aviation sector (CORSIA), which was imposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). (End) Z E R / T A B
