A Case Registered Against Kris Gopalakrishnan and 16 Others

A significant case has been registered against Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan and 16 others under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. The case, filed at the Sadashiva Nagar police station, was initiated based on directives from the 71st city civil and session court (CCH).

The complainant in this case is Durgappa, a tribal member of the Bovi community and a former faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Allegations of False Implication and Casteist Abuse

Durgappa alleged that in 2014, he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case. Following this false accusation, he was dismissed from his position at IISc. Furthermore, he claimed he was subjected to casteist abuse and threats.

These allegations against Gopalakrishnan, among others, paint a concerning picture of systemic issues within academic institutions and highlight the broader problem of caste discrimination.

Individuals Accused in the Case

The list of accused individuals includes not only Gopalakrishnan but also other prominent names such as Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari K V S, Dasappa, Balaram P, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan.

These individuals held influential positions at IISc, adding a layer of complexity to the case and raising questions about institutional accountability.

No Immediate Reaction from Accused

As of the filing of the case, there has been no response or statement from any of the accused, including Kris Gopalakrishnan. Notably, Gopalakrishnan also serves as a member of the IISc Board of Trustees.

The lack of immediate response from these influential figures adds to the public’s concern about the handling of such serious allegations within prestigious academic institutions.

Implications and Broader Impact

This case underscores the critical need for institutions to address and prevent caste-based discrimination and harassment. It also highlights the importance of providing support and protection to employees who come forward with allegations of prejudice.

The Indian education system, especially renowned institutions like IISc, must take proactive steps to foster an inclusive environment and ensure the safety and respect of all its members.
