by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

After the global success of the animated film, Netflix and Sony are working on “KPop Demon Hunters 2”.

The streaming service Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation officially have a sequel to the animated hit «KPop Demon Hunters» announced. The sequel is already in development and is currently scheduled to appear in 2029. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will again be directing, and will also be working on the script again.

The sequel also marks the beginning of a new multi-year exclusive agreement between Kang, Appelhans and Netflix in the animation sector. Details about the plot of the second film have not yet been released. What is clear, however, is that the story surrounding the K-pop group Huntr/x will continue.

The first film told the story of the pop stars Rumi, Mira and Zoey, who lead a secret double life alongside their music career: as demon hunters, they protect their fans from supernatural threats. Among other things, they have to face a rival boy band who turn out to be demons. According to director Chris Appelhans, they are excited to further develop the characters and tell new chapters of their story.

“With KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie and Chris not only reached audiences, but also ignited a global fan base that transcends languages, generations and genres,” said Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “We are incredibly proud to deepen our partnership with them and, together with our partners at Sony Pictures Animation, build this universe in a way that will surprise and delight fans around the world.”

Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville, presidents of Sony Pictures Animations, added: “Encouraging the bold creative visions of our filmmakers is at the heart of our work at Sony Pictures Animation. Maggie and Chris brought their incredibly unique perspectives to this film, telling a story that has thrilled audiences around the world. We are excited to work with them to further expand their vision in the next chapter.”
