Korea was placed in Group A with the winner of Mexico, South Africa, and Europe’s PO Pass D (Czech Republic-Ireland vs. Denmark-North Macedonia) at the North and Central America World Cup draw ceremony held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on the morning of the 6th (Korean time).
This North and Central America World Cup, now in its 23rd year since the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, will be co-hosted by three countries for the first time in history.
It will be held in 16 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19 next year, local time.
It is also the first World Cup in which the 32-nation system introduced since the 1998 France Games was expanded to 48.
The Korean national team, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, recorded 6 wins and 4 draws (22 points) in the third round of the Asian preliminary round, finishing first in Group B and earning a ticket to North Korea, Central America and the United States.
It has been 16 years since Korea passed the World Cup qualifiers undefeated in 2010.
Hong Myung-Boho participated in the second qualifying round of the North and Central America World Cup and advanced to the third qualifying round with 5 wins and 1 draw, then added 6 wins and 4 draws and recorded undefeated in 16 consecutive games (11 wins, 5 draws).
This is the 11th consecutive World Cup finals since the 1986 Mexico tournament and the 12th overall, including the 1954 Switzerland tournament.
Hong Myung-boho will advance to the round of 16 for the second time in the history of an away tournament and challenge the quarterfinals for the first time beyond the 2022 Qatar Tournament.
