This is the first time in Indian cinema that a film has been re-released in such a short period of time
Re-release of movies has been a trend in Indian cinema for a few years now. The trend that started in Hindi and Tamil has also reached Malayalam. Old films that have received cult status or films that did not get enough attention in the first release have been re-released in this way. But they all came back to theaters after a gap of years, often after remastering. Now a days a film is gaining attention by announcing its re-release within a very short period of time.
The Hindi film Kiss Kisco Pyaar Karoon 2, written and directed by Anukalp Goswami starring Kapil Sharma in the lead, has shocked the audience with its quick re-release announcement. This is a film that hit the theaters on December 12. The film received positive reviews. The film collected well in the first weekend but failed to maintain a good hold in the following days. A major reason for this was the competition created by other films. While films including Dhurandar, the biggest Indian hit of the year, attracted audiences, Kiss Kisco Pyaar Karoon 2 failed to do so. With the arrival of Christmas releases including Karthik Aryan’s Tu Meri Mem Tera Mem Tera Tu Meri, the theaters were completely washed out.
Made on a budget of 35 crores, the film managed to collect only 16.22 crores at the global box office. The decision to re-release the film soon comes from the producers’ assessment that their film deserves better collection and audience acceptance. The film will hit the theaters in January next year. That is more than a month after the original release. Maybe even before that. The makers will announce the re-release date soon. This is the first such re-release in Indian cinema. Kiss Kisco Pyaar Karoon 2 is the sequel of 2015’s Kiss Kisco Pyaar Karoon.
