The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island is active again. At night, bright red lava fountains shoot into the sky.
The latest activity, which has fascinated residents and visitors for almost a year, began on the sixth of December. It includes fountains that rise from openings on the North Cone between 50 and 100 feet high.
The eruption remains limited to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. US Geological Survey scientists continue to monitor increased seismic activity and lava behavior.
No surrounding communities are currently at risk.
