Classic station wagons of lower middle class size are declining in the market in favor of crossovers and SUVs, but Kia is not packing it in the recently key European segment after the end of this year’s Ceed model. The new K4 Sportswagon follows the shorter hatchback K4, or the electric alternative EV4.
It has a similarly expressive rear with L-shaped lamps and handles hidden in the C-pillar. The hatchback has already grown against the Ceed, and the new station wagon is also larger. Only thanks to the larger rear overhang, the wheelbase of 2720 mm remained the same. The station wagon is 4,695 millimeters long, and the trunk offers 604 liters.
The dashboard is the same as the hatchback. The driver’s 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and the equally large central screen are complemented by a smaller climate control monitor.
Customers have a choice of two petrol engines 1.0 T-GDI (85 kW/115 hp) and 1.6 T-GDI (110 kW/150 hp or 132 kW/180 hp) in combination with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch DCT transmission, which in the case of the 1.0 T-GDI drive unit is fitted with a mild-hybrid drive (MHEV).
