Rais Syuriyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Prof. M Nuh, announced that KH Zulfa Mustofa has officially become the General Chairperson (Ketum) of the PBNU Sultan Group. This was one of the results of the PBNU Sultan Group Plenary Meeting at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/12/2025).
“The appointment of the Acting General Chairperson of PBNU for the remainder of his term of service is His Excellency KH Zulfa Mustofa. Therefore, he will lead PBNU as Acting General Chairperson to carry out his duties until the Congress,” he said at a press conference.
The 35th Congress, said Prof. Nuh, will be held at an adjusted time. It was not brought forward, he said, because the 34th NU Congress in Lampung was one year later than it should have been.

“Tonight, as we all know, the plenary meeting has determined Alfaqir, appointing myself as Acting General Chair,” he said in his remarks.
“I also said that I don’t want to be part of the conflict of the past. But I want to be a solution to this jam’iyyah in the future. I invite the NU management, let’s unite again in this big house,” he added.
Previously, the Head of PBNU Syuriyah, Sarmidi Husna, revealed that there were two candidates for Chairman of the PBNU Sultan Group, namely KH Zulfa Mustofa and Prof. Nizar Ali.
“There are still two options for becoming Acting Ketum, Prof. Nizar and Kiai Zulfa,” he said on the sidelines of the plenary session.
