Kenya Intensifies Ebola Surveillance Amid Uganda Outbreak

NAIROBI, Kenya — In response to an Ebola outbreak in neighboring Uganda, Kenya’s Ministry of Health has escalated surveillance efforts at all national entry points. This preemptive action aims to prevent the spread of the deadly virus within the country.

Enhanced Surveillance and Readiness

“We have strengthened surveillance systems in all counties and points of entry as a precautionary measure,” stated Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of Health, in a statement released from Nairobi.

The health ministry is conducting a rapid assessment of the country’s readiness to manage a potential Ebola outbreak. Once evaluated, a comprehensive response plan will be developed to ensure effective preparedness and swift action.

Uganda’s Ebola Outbreak

Uganda’s Ministry of Health officially declared the outbreak after a 32-year-old male nurse succumbed to the Sudan Ebola virus. This marks the eighth Ebola outbreak in East Africa’s Uganda since 2000.
