Bibbiano The funeral of the Indian girl who died on January 1st at the Maggiore hospital in Parma will be held on Friday 16 January. There will not be a ceremony at the Gurdwara Singh Sabha temple in Parma but a short prayer in front of the hospital chapel, then the procession will go directly to the Parma crematorium to await authorization for cremation and the transfer of the ashes to India. The death of Jap Kaur, killed at 13 months old by an aggressive form of pneumococcal meningitisaffected everyone in the country.
The ordeal began on Thursday 18 December with a visit to Santa Maria and improvement for a day, then the fatal relapse on 21 December, which left the little girl no escape. Yet another ambulance ride to Santa Maria Nuova in Reggio in desperate conditions and the emergency transfer to Maggiore in Parma (again on 21 December) where she remained hospitalized for nine days in serious condition. The aggressive infection of pneumococcal meningitis severely compromised the vital organs, until the tragic epilogue on New Year’s Eve. Despair for the parents and for the entire Indian community gathered around them. Bibbiano also rallied around the Indian family of little Jap Kaur.
Dad Singh Palwinder, 45 years old, works as a farm laborer in a stable in Corniano, mother Kaur Baljinder, 35 years old, is a housewife. The couple – who speak very little Italian – have another five-year-old daughter who attends the Bibbiano municipal nursery. The neighbors in Corniano speak of a respectable couple: he, a willing and respectful man, his wife who arrived in Italy with a residence permit (family reunification) in 2023, takes care of the family. Solidarity and comfort for the family also came in recent days from the mayor of Bibbiano, Stefano Marazzi, who said: «Tragedies of this kind literally leave one speechless and dismayed. In this moment of such great and sudden suffering, I am anxious to convey to this family, on behalf of the entire Biblianese community, our closeness and most sincere condolences.” Father Singh Palwinder, in thanking the entire Indian community and the country for their closeness, is still waiting for the residence permit for his wife and five-year-old daughter: «Little Kaur’s ashes, to be transported to Indiarequire special clearance, and the mother does not yet have the permit renewed from the Reggio Emilia police station. We are still waiting – recalls the man, who cannot hold back his tears –: without the permission of my wife and the five-year-old daughter (who attends the Bibbiano municipal nursery, ed.), we cannot transport the ashes of little Kaur’s body to India. We hope for a little help so that the situation can be resolved.” © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
