Coins, stamps, books, comics, music records or the world-famous Paninis, stick-on photos of football stars, are popular collector’s items. But there are also other preferences for rarities.
In the age of the Internet, it happens repeatedly that various sports clubs put up their players’ equipment at auction. Not always, but often the proceeds go to a good cause. For example, at the auction for Jutta Leerdam, the ice queen of the 2026 Olympic Games. Leerdam won a gold and a silver medal for the Netherlands.
At least 7,600 euros for a racing suit
Her clothes – and those of her teammates – have been put up for auction online by the Dutch Olympic Committee. The proceeds go to the local clubs where the athletes started their careers.
Unsurprisingly, the greatest demand is for the clothes of Olympic champion Jutta Leerdam, who enjoys great popularity. Your racing suit is currently available from “Matchwornshirt” for just over 7,000 euros, the worn jacket for just under 3,000 and the headband for 1,000 euros. The auctions run until Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
A Swiss woman was also part of a crazy auction recently. AS Roma offered their players’ clothes – Nati player Alayah Pilgrim’s trousers were sold for more than 500 francs.
In addition to being athletes, both Pilgrim and Leerdam are also social media stars. Pilgrim has almost 600,000 followers on Instagram. Leerdam is another number internationally: the Dutch woman has almost as many followers as Switzerland has inhabitants. 6.5 million people follow the Olympic champion. Three of them will soon have her original clothing.
