Justin Bone has been sober for 10 years and helps TikTok followers through sobriety.

Justin Bone, a former athlete turned hospitality worker from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, shares his inspiring journey of sobriety on TikTok. His compelling narrative and relatable advice have garnered him millions of followers, making him a beacon of hope for those struggling with alcohol addiction.

From Promising Athlete to Cocktail Waiter

Justin’s journey began when he wasn’t able to pursue his dream of becoming an Olympic athlete. A talented 100m sprinter who won a silver medal in the English Schools Athletics Championships at just 16 years old, Justin found himself disheartened as he realized he wouldn’t reach the Olympic stage. This disappointment led him down a path of heavy drinking in his late teenage years.

His life took a dramatic turn when he entered the hospitality industry, where he struggled with alcohol addiction. At its peak, Justin was consuming an entire bottle of whiskey and several pints of beer daily. The allure of the nightlife and the availability of alcohol made it difficult for him to navigate his sobriety.

Moments of Clarity: Deciding to Quit

The tipping point came when Justin reached a breaking point. Upon the stairs of his home, he experienced a moment of intense shakes that made him realize the danger he was in. It was then that he decided to go “cold turkey,” an approach that proved challenging yet ultimately transformative.

Justin spent two days in bed, shivering, as he dealt with the withdrawal symptoms. It was a rough period, but it marked the beginning of his long and winding path to sobriety. In his own words, “That’s when I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to die.’ When I came out of that, that’s when I realized, no more, never again.”

Rebuilding His Life

Justin’s sobriety journey was fraught with challenges. He missed his rent payments for six months and eventually had to vacate his home. Undeterred, he rented a nearby garage where he spent four months getting sober and reconnecting with his physical health.

Realizing his weight had ballooned to 17 stone (107.95kg), Justin decided to hit the gym. This new routine helped him regain his strength and resilience, essential for overcoming addiction.

Local support played a crucial role in Justin’s journey. The council provided accommodation at a home for individuals recovering from addiction. Justin lived there for a year, surrounded by others facing similar struggles. This experience profoundly influenced his decision to become a sobriety coach, empowering him to help others on their paths to recovery.

Sharing His Journey on TikTok

In early 2024, Justin made a TikTok post during the month of Dry January. This video about sleep habits was initially light-hearted but quickly gained traction. His post received 25,000 views within hours, catapulting him into the spotlight.

Feeling motivated by his success, Justin continued to share his journey on TikTok. His believable stories and relatable experiences resonated with his growing audience. Within months, his channel, titled ‘Super Sober Life’, amassed millions of views and 16,400 followers, many of whom were older adults seeking support for their sobriety.

‘Inner Confidence’ as a Byproduct

Justin’s sobriety brings a newfound sense of confidence. He believes his journey transformed him into a “superhero,” capable of handling life’s challenges without relying on alcohol. This inner strength enables him to face adversity head-on, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than a reason to retreat.

“One of the beautiful things about being sober is you don’t have alcohol when you have a problem,” Justin stated, emphasizing the empowerment sobriety provides. “You don’t have alcohol when you have a celebration. You have to deal with stuff.”

This inner confidence, Justin believes, is as transformative as any substance could be. It gives him the courage to help others, fostering a community of support and encouragement on platforms like TikTok.
