A couple of weeks ago the launch of a new film by Jumanji. I was starring in it again Dwayne Johnson accompanied by Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart y Jack Black.
That is to say: the quartet that has led the saga since the successful reboot 2017. More than twenty years after the original film Joe Johnston which starred Robin Williams (becoming a true nineties icon), Sony Pictures It occurred to him to give a twist to the original idea, and transform the board game into an immersive video game.
The update couldn’t have worked better. Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle prompted a sequel just two years later, also directed by Jake Kasdan. The next installment has taken longer to come together but it has finally done so with Kasdan and the original cast; with the nuance, of course, that Johnson did not want to refer to her as a third part for the 2017 film. Instead, as we verified in a recent Instagram post, she is Jumanji 4 the title you hold.
It is a declaration of intent. Sony set the premiere of this new Jumanji for him December 11, 2026 (after up to seven years of Jumanji: The Next Level), and the idea is that it is a culmination for the entire saga, in the style of what could be, for example, in 2022 Jurassic World: Dominion. The movie of Colin Trevorrow not only did it close the new cycle of films Jurassic World but referred to the Jurassic Park original, and it is just what the new one proposes to do Jumanji.
Johnson, likewise, has declared that this will be the end of the saga. Coinciding with the cast’s reading of the script (and when they have to assume that their options at Oscar are very small after the collapse at the box office of The Smashing Machine), the star has given a couple of very juicy details about Jumanji. And, on the one hand, it is planned to be the last installment and the end of the story that began with welcome to the jungle. And, on the other hand, it will be a tribute to the original film directed by Robin Williams, with the corresponding dose of nostalgia.
“We officially begin the production of Jumanji with our script reading in Los Angeles, where we will also be filming,” Johnson writes. “What a massive, fun, moving adventure. It seems emotionally appropriate that our beloved saga of Jumanji end with this beautiful ending, in our last movie. It’s amazing to get the whole band together, and our jaws are already hurting from all the laughing.”
In the photos that Johnson attaches, in fact, he appears with his co-stars bursting into laughter. Also, in the last image, we see a pendant with a dice that may sound familiar to us, and that connects Jumanji 4 with the first film (from which Johnson has also quoted a line). “It is the dice of the Jumanji original from 1995 and a way of rendering tribute, love and respect to the great Robin Williams,” writes Johnson, ensuring that his character in the film will carry said die.
