Juan Soto Owns Up to Yankees Snub: "It’s Just Business"
Juan Soto’s official introduction as a New York Met wasn’t just a celebration of his record-breaking contract; it was also a subtle reminder to the Bronx Bombers of the talent they missed out on.
Soto’s Lack of Contact
Soto, who inked the largest contract in baseball history with the Mets this week, was asked about his relationship with former teammates on the Yankees. He confessed that he hasn’t spoken to any of them since the playoffs, saying, "I haven’t talked to any of those guys… (I) talked to them throughout the playoffs, but after that, I haven’t talked to any of them.”
This revelation sent shockwaves through the baseball world, especially in New York, where the rivalry between the Mets and Yankees runs deep.
A Message to the Fans (and the Yankees?)
Soto’s comments weren’t solely about his strained relationship with ex-Yankees players. He also stated, "I want to say thank you to the fans… They really showed me all the love and everything that they have. They have a spot in my heart.” While seemingly a gracious gesture, many interpret this as a gentle jab at the Yankees, who ultimately didn’t land the superstar.
Soto even went out of his way to reiterate his closeness with Yankees star Aaron Judge, stating, "We’re still friends, we’re still cool… It’s just business. The relationship that we created last year will stay forever.” This reassurance, however, likely didn’t erase the sting of lost opportunity for the Yankees.
Tough Times in the Bronx
Fans in The Bronx were dealt a harsh blow when their heroic bid to acquire Soto fell short. The sight of him thriving with their rivals in the same city can only add to the pain.
