Josephine Howard (née Keane): Peace at Last
Josephine Howard (née Keane) left her loving family and friends on January 31, 2025, in the compassionate care of the staff at Abbey Breaffy Nursing Home in Breaffy, Castlebar.
A Life Remembered
Josephine was predeceased by her devoted husband Laurence, her cherished parents James and Sarah, and siblings Norah, Sadie, Beatie, and John. Her legacy is imprinted on the hearts of her children and grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they shared.
Beloved Mother and Grandmother
Josephine was a beloved mother to four children: Laurence, Sarah, Seán, and Noreen. She was also a cherished grandmother to numerous grandchildren: Aoife, Lauren, Seán, Danny, Saoirse, Niamh, Roisín, Seán, Larry, Caoimhe, Luke, Seán Óg, Cathal, and Paddy.
A Community Heart
Josephine’s warm heart embraced not only her immediate family but also her wider circle of family members, including her brothers Pat and Seamus, and her sister Mary Duffy. She was loved by her daughters-in-law Kate and Geraldine, and her sons-in-law John Moran and John Vaughan. She will be remembered fondly by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and relatives. Her kindness extended to her neighbors and friends, who were deeply impacted by her presence.
Final Farewell and Tribute
Josephine’s remains will be at rest at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet, from 4 o’clock to 6 o’clock on Monday. Her funeral will start at the Church of Our Lady Lourdes in Glencastle on Tuesday with a 12 o’clock Funeral Mass, followed by her burial in Glencastle New Cemetery.
Live Stream and Memorials
For those unable to attend, the Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on McDonnell Funeral Directors’ Facebook page at 12 o’clock on Tuesday. Additional funeral services will be available for viewing at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening.
Memorial Donations
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Josephine’s memory be made to Western Alzheimer’s, payable via their iDonate page. Their mission aligns with Josephine’s advocacy for those in need.
