Talk about journalism in Puerto Rico is, inevitably, talking about Jose Esteves Montesinosa veteran reporter whose work ethic and constant presence have served as an inspiration to colleagues and future generations of communicators. Beyond the news, the graduate of the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras represents a familiar and close face to the Puerto Rican people, a journalist whose authenticity and unique style—symbolized by his iconic “Esteves shirts”—have transcended the screen.
Hoy, Telemundo Puerto Ricopaid tribute to 13 professionals who are completing their respective professional careers, many of them, according to the meteorologist Zamira Mendozawith more than 30 years of service. Among them, Esteves.
“Thank you for so many years of dedication and journalistic excellence,” expressed the member of the “Authority in Time” of “Telenews”.
The communicator’s career began in the early 1980s in “El once en Las Noticias” TeleOnce. In 1982, he reached WAPA Television where he served as deputy news director and head of the information desk.
It was in 1992 when he finally started on Telemundo’s “Telenoticias en Acción”. Since then, Channel 2 became his second home.
Esteves Montesino, as established in his profile in telemundo.prhas been recognized with numerous awards from the Overseas Press Clubthe Association of Journalists of Puerto Rico (Asppro)and other civic and cultural organizations that recognize the work of journalists on the island.
Some of his most important works were the Gulf War in the Middle East, AIDS in Africa, the coup d’état in Venezuela, Street Children in Brazil and Colombia. In addition, he has been responsible for social interest coverage such as the Pan American Games and preparations for the visit of Pope John Paul II, both in Cuba.
