(Motorsport-Total.com) – The MotoGP transfer carousel for 2027 and 2028 has significantly picked up speed. As previously exclusively revealed, Fabio Quartararo will be leaving Yamaha for Honda. It is already clear who will take his place in the Yamaha factory team: Jorge Martin.

According to information from Motorsport.com Spaina sister platform of Motorsport-Total.com on Motorsport Network, Jorge Martin is close to reaching an agreement with Yamaha. The Spaniard will thus end his chapter at Aprilia next year.
While the move from “El Diablo” to Honda seems entirely logical given the tensions between him and the Yamaha leadership, Martin’s move may come as a surprise to many. Especially because he had already tried to switch to Honda for 2026 last year.
“We are currently examining the options that Jorge has on the table – and Yamaha is one of them,” explains his manager Albert Valera in an interview with Motorsport.com Spain. The contract with Yamaha is expected to be signed shortly.

Martin, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, January 29th, will be moving to the Yamaha factory team at the age of 29. After Pramac-Ducati and Aprilia, Yamaha will be his third motorcycle within a short time.
The “Martinator” will not be able to take to the track at the Sepang test next week (Tuesday to Thursday) as it is still recovering from two operations carried out this winter.
The procedures were necessary to relieve pain in the left scaphoid and right clavicle. These were consequences of his fall in the starting accident in the sprint in Japan last season. It was the latest setback in a year to forget.
Martin will still travel to Malaysia this Sunday to follow the test closely and attend the MotoGP season presentation, which takes place in Kuala Lumpur on February 6th and 7th. Martin will be represented by Lorenzo Savadori at the Sepang test.
While Yamaha has not yet announced Martin’s official signing, attention is now turning to who his teammate could be. Alex Rins, Quartararo’s current teammate, only seems to be able to keep this place if he shows a significantly stronger performance than in 2025.
